How to Get Slime Out of Hair

It’s all fun and play until someone gets slime in their hair. If you have kids you know how stressful this can be but no need to worry or shave off your hair or your child’s. Rest assured as there are many ways to get slime off your hair.

From a simple ‘wash, repeat, and rinse’ routine to using slippery and oil-based substances, it is effective enough to get rid of the slime. As long as the slime gets something to cling on, desperate times should not call for desperate measures. There are several ways to get slime out of your hair and below are some recommendations for you:

Conditioning the hair

What you’ll need

  • Conditioner
  • Shampoo
  • Comb or brush

Steps

While taking a warm shower, apply conditioner to your hair.

If the slime is at the edges, you can just dip the hair into warm water. Massage the conditioner using your fingers in the direction of your hair growth to remove the slime out of your hair. Conditioners are oil-based which helps make the slime easy to pull out of the hair after breaking it down.

Use a comb to break up the slime.

As the water runs over the slime area, run a comb through gently.

Rinse out the conditioner.

When the slime has broken and is almost gone, run water through your hair and use your fingers to rinse off the conditioner.

Massage shampoo into the hair.

Using your fingers, apply shampoo and rub in the same direction as your hair growth. This will clear out any remaining slime from your hair.

Using oil-based products

What you’ll need

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Oil-based product (versatile)
  • Comb or brush

Steps

Rub oil into the hair.

Rub the oil as if you would shampoo. Work the oil in fully using your fingers in the same direction as your hair growth. Products rich in heavy oil like mayonnaise, peanut butter, olive oil, vegetable oil, coconut oil, or baby oil can be used.

Comb out the hair.

Using a fine-toothed comb, remove the slime as gently as possible to prevent any damage to the hair.

Wash the hair with shampoo and conditioner.

At this point, the slime is almost completely off your hair. Run warm water from the shower and the shampoo and conditioner will clean the slime and any remaining odor from the product you use.

Applying diluted vinegar

What you’ll need

  • Conditioner
  • White or apple cider vinegar
  • Comb

Steps

Remove as much slime as you can. You can pull out the big chunks first.

Put on goggles to protect the eyes.

Vinegar can burn a little so goggles can get that out of the way. As you shower, apply the vinegar to your hair and allow it to drip.

Rub a mixture of 2/3 of vinegar and 1/3 of warm water into the hair.

You can dip the ends if the slime is in that area. Pour the mixture into the hair and massage it in using your fingers. This helps to break up the slime. Repeat as much as needed.

Use conditioner to rinse out the remaining slime.

 Conclusion

When it comes to choosing what to use when cleaning slime, it depends on the extent of the slime to your hair. Some incidents are extreme that ice cubes are used to freeze slime so that it can easily crack off.

Ultimately if there is too much damage to your hair, visiting a professional groomer to cut out the area affected will be the solution for you. Otherwise, most of the above mentions are very effective so no need to panic or cut your hair.
